If my last meal was my last, I would choose to have my dad make it and it would be a mixed plate of Dominican and American food made up of mangú, pernil, an empanada, and chicken wings. Each of these foods have been my favorite foods my entire life, and if I am going to die I might as well eat everything I love before hand. I think these foods describe my community because the intertwine of cultures (Dominican and American) is a representation of where I've grown up my entire life. My parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic to pursue graduate school and start a family so my entire life has been a mix of both cultures. Choosing to have 3 Dominican dishes and 1 American one describes the heavier influence my Dominican heritage has on my life.
